You really can teach an old dog new tricks! Thanks to Gretchen, we were able to train two five-year-old dogs that were very set in their ways. We have one black Labrador, Teke, and a lab-boxer mix, Macie Lane. Each dog had their own issues. Teke was an excessive barker, especially in the car. Leash walking amounted to him dragging you wherever he decided to go. As for Macie Lane, she had a mind all her own! She turned everything in to a chasing game, and would expect us to chase, but never allowing us to catch her. She would never obey commands from a distance and loved to get on the furniture when we were not looking. Macie Lane can also be very dominant and aggressive when she does not need to be. Her looks and bark intimidated people who did not know her.
We used to have to take them both hiking up in the mountains where it is secluded, in order to feel comfortable letting them off their leashes for exercise. Now after the Dog Wizard training we can walk throughout the neighborhood off leash, past cars, children, dogs or any distraction. They will heal perfectly, sit, come and stop on command.
The “place” command is our personal favorite. We recently held a baby shower at our home with about 20 adults and four children (all under the age of four), Macie and Teke stayed on their “place” and let the children pet them. They just watched as everyone ate food right in front of them! Before the dog wizard they would have been kenneled for the day. It is so nice to be able to have guests over without having to wrestle away the dogs. It made us proud to hear our friends wish they had dogs like ours!
Macie Lane and Teke are our “children.” We have always loved having them with us at all times, but it was such a chore getting them to behave. Now they can go to our family’s houses where they were never quite welcomed before. Strangers comment on how well trained and smart they are when they pass on the street. Our friends and family are amazed at the results and so are we!
Instead of keeping them kenneled all the time, we actually look forward to taking them places or on a walk through the neighborhood. It’s great showing off all the commands they know.
Thank you Gretchen for giving our family the ability to spend more time together!
